Pollard backs Rohit Sharma to rediscover form
Rohit Sharma has had a patchy record so far in the Indian Premier League in the first three fixtures. The Indian skipper has scored 21 runs from three innings with a highest score of 13.
However, Mumbai Indians batting coach Kieron Pollard backs the Indian talisman to return to his run-scoring best.
“I’ve played alongside Rohit since Under-19 cricket and he has forged his name and etched his name in history in the record books, in different situations, different formats of the game,” Pollard told reporters.
“He is a legend of the game in his own right, and as an individual as well.”
Rohit came into the Indian Premier League season on the back off a triumphant Champions Trophy 2025, where he led from the front with a brilliant 76 (83) as he set the foundation for India’s win over New Zealand in the summit clash.
Furthermore, backing his former franchise cricket teammate, the former West Indies skipper asserted that Sharma had ‘earned the right’ to ‘not be pressurised’.
“There are times when you have a couple of low scores … he has earned the right as an individual to now enjoy his cricket and not be pressurised in certain situations. So let’s not judge on a couple of low scores.
“In cricket, we know we fail more than we succeed and I’m sure we’ll be singing his praises when he gives us that big score and then we’ll be on to the next hot topic.”
