Filmmaker Raihan Rafi has stated that his latest web-film, “Amlanama”, has no connection to Ekramul Haque, the former Municipality Councillor of Teknaf, who was brutally executed in a so-called gunfight.

The Chorki Original film officially premiered on March 13. After watching the trailer, some viewers have drawn parallels between the film and Ekramul’s incident. However, director Raihan Rafi has dismissed those claims.

The director also took to his social media account, saying, “We have maintained from the very beginning that this film is not based on a true story. Rather, it is inspired by real events. The film draws from various incidents of extrajudicial killings that have taken place in the country.”

“We have attempted to tell a story based on multiple incidents. I can say with certainty that no single individual is the focus of this narrative,” he further stated.

Meanwhile, Ayesha Begum, the wife of Ekramul Haque, addressed the matter on her social media account. She sought to clarify the confusion and wrote, “Director Raihan Rafi has made a fictional movie. During the film’s opening, Raihan Rafi himself clarified that the movie does not match any real events and that he has created it entirely based on his imagination. Yet, after watching this movie, some people are blaming and shaming us.”

She emphasised that those falsely claiming the film is based on her husband’s incident are misleading others. She asserted that Ekramul Haque was never involved with any kind of drugs and was brutally and deliberately murdered. She also urged Raihan Rafi to publicly declare that this movie has no connection with the real events of Ekramul Haque.

Previously, Raihan Rafi has directed several films inspired by real events, including “Janowar”, “Friday”, “Taan”, and “Khachar Bhetor Ochin Pakhi”, among others.
