Ramadan begins Friday

The holy month of Ramadan will begin in the country on Friday as the new moon was not sighted anywhere in Bangladesh’s sky today.

The National Moon Sighting Committee took the decision in a meeting at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital with Religious Affairs Minister Principal Motiur Rahman, and also the chief of the National Moon Sighting Committee, in the chair.

Tarabih prayers will be offered in all the mosques across the country on Thursday night.

The devotees will take sehri at 3:46 am on Thursday while iftar at 6:39 pm on Friday.

Earlier in the evening, the National Moon Sighting Committee sat to look over moon sighting reports to ascertain the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan.

On May 7, the government set office timing for all government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies from 9:00am to 3:30pm during Ramadan.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has also fixed the office hours for all banks from 9.30 am to 4 pm for the holy month of Ramadan.
