Relatives have no complain, UD case filed

An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed by police in connection with the recovery of the dead body of Jahangirnagar University’s former teacher Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman from his Uttara flat in the capital.

Police said the UD case was filed as there is no suspicion or complain from the relatives of Professor Tareque Rahman received.

Besides, police did not found anything suspicious in preliminary investigation. Because of it, a UD case was filed. However, steps would be taken accordingly if something is found during investigation or in postmortem, police said.

Meanwhile, the postmortem of the body of Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman was held at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue on Sunday. The forensic experts took photographs of the place of occurence from police to determine the causes of his death. Police said the photographs were taken to analyse how the dead body was actually found.

Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman’s younger brother Khaled Shahidur Rahman Mithu said his brother sent a message to the mobile phone of his nephew at about 8:00pm on Friday. The message contained his land and bank account related information. At about 10:00pm, the nephew called him back and asked why the message was sent. At that time, he said, “I feel unwell and talk to you later on.” No further talks were happened between them. His family has no complain regarding his death. He might have died of stroke. The family keeps faith in police investigation.

Turag Police Station’s SI Ali Azam said Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman might have died sometime beween 10:00pm on Friday and Saturday morning. The forensic experts would tell police about the real causes of death and probable timings. Besides, police are investigating the case.

Relatives said the body of Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman was taken to his village home in Pirojpur district after the postmortem on Sunday. He will be buried at his family graveyard after a namaj-e-janaza at 10:00am on Monday.

Professor Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman used to live alone at his Flat No. 1304 at ‘Dolon Champa’ building of Rajuk Residential Area at Sector No. 18 in Uttara. On Saturday morning, his domestic help went to the flat but did not receive any response from inside. At one stage, police was informed about the matter. Later, police went to the flat and entered it breaking the door lock, and found Dr Tareque Shamsur Rehman’s body lying near the bathroom. His wife and daughter live in the United States.
