Ruling Awami League general secretary’s younger brother and Basurhat municipality mayor Abdul Quader Mirza was relieved from the party on Saturday afternoon, but reinstated in the evening.

Noakhali district Awami League had relieved Quader Mirza from the party in the afternoon and sent a letter to the central committee seeking his expulsion.

However, the reliving order was withdrawn after 7:00pm.

Noakhali district Awami League president AHM Khairul Anam Chowdhury Selim said that the district committee withdrew its previous order “to keep the situation calm.”

He also said the issue was pending at the  party president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s office in Dhaka.

In the previous decision, the district committee also recommended the party’s central committee to expel Mirza Quader from the party.

The decision had come hours after Quader Mirza announced a human chain programme scheduled for February 22.

He demanded action against Noakhali-4 lawmaker Md Ekramul Karim Chowdhury, Feni-3 lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari and former Companyganj upazila chairman Mizanur Rahman Badal for their alleged involvement in attacking his supporters and activities on Friday.

Contacted, Basurhat Municipality mayor Abdul Quader Mirza said, “I’ve no relation with the Noakhali district Awami League. It’s an illegal committee. This committee doesn’t exist at all.”
