Search Committee invites 60 noted citizens

The Search Committee has invited 60 noted citizens of the country belonging to different professions to get opinion about the formation of new Election Commission (EC).
The Cabinet Division, which is providing secretarial assistance to the Search Committee, has invited 60 noted citizens requesting them to remain present in time. Apart from sending letters, the Cabinet Division also made phone calls requesting the eminent citizens at the Supreme Court Judges’ Lounge in schedule times. The Search Committee will hold meeting with 20 eminent persons at a time. Two such meetings will be held on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Sources at the Cabinet Division said that those who have been invited are Advocate Yusuf Humayun, Mansurul Huq Chowdhury, Rokonuddin Mahmud, AF Hasan Ariff, AJ Mohammad Ali, Fida M Kamal, MK Rahman and Shahdin Malik.
Besides, Shujon secretary Badiul Alam Mazumder, local government expert Tofail Ahmed, Ajker Patrika editor Prof Dr Golam Rahman, Daily Star editor Mahfuz Anam, Ittefaq editor Tasmima Hossain, journalists Abed Khan and Mozammel Babu, and Jatiya Press Club president Farid Yasmin have been invited.
Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Prof Syed Manzurul Islam, Prof Zafar Iqbal, Prof Muntasir Mamun, Prof Maksud Kamal and Prof Asif Nazrul have received the invitation.
Moreover, FBCCI president Jashim Uddin, Ha Mim Group’s owner AK Azad, former caretaker government adviser AF Hasan Ariff, former cabinet secretary M Abdul Aziz, former ECs Abdul Mobarak and Sakhawat Hossain, poet Mohadev Saha, Bangladesh Medical Association president Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, former BSMMU VC Dr Kamrul Hasan Khan, former DUCSU VP Mahfuza Khanam and Khelafat Majlish’s ameer Moulana Mohammad Ishaque have been invited at the Search Committee’s meetings.
