Seven killed in Moghbazar explosion: DMP chief

Seven people died in an explosion at Sharma House at Moghbazar in the capital on Sunday evening.

It was revealed by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam on Sunday night.

Visiting the spot at night, the DMP Commissioner said, “What we have learnt so far that seven people have died in the explosion while several buildings around the Sharma House at Moghbazar were damaged. Besides, three buses were burnt.”

Fire Services’ deputy assistant director Abul Bashar said explosion took place on the ground floor of the three-storeyed Sharma House at 79/1 Circular Road. Many were injured in the blast.

Police and witnesses said passengers of two buses were injured in the series of blast. At least, 48 injured persons were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute. Of them, 12 were admitted to the Burn Institute.
Dr Partha Sankar Paul, resident physician at Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute, said two injured patients died while underwent treatment there. The condition of 10 injured were very critical. Their bodies bore marks of injuries apart from burning.
