Students of Shah Makhdum Medical College in Rajshahi alleged that managing director Moniruzzaman Swadhin sexually harassed female students at dormitory on the campus. Besides, he and his employees also behaved rudely with those students who protested against their alleged misdeeds.
High ups of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare have assured that they will investigate and take necessary steps in this regard.
After the inauguration of the private medical college, 139 female and 71 male students from seven batches have been staying at the dormitories since 2014.  The college managing director established an unsafe environment rather making it safe, alleged the students.
A group of residential students alleged that, “Swadhin often entered the rooms of female students without any prior notices and sexually harassed them. He also set hidden cameras inside the bathrooms to film naked photos of students.”
Guardians of the students also expressed their angers as allegations against the college MD comes to light. “We want exemplary punishment of the MD,” said a guardian.
Wishing anonymity, a student said, “He (Swadhin) used to call female students at his room at midnight. He does not allow any companion when he calls students to his room.”
About the allegations, heath secretary of the ministry Md Abdul Mannan said, “Legal steps will be taken if any kind of harassment faced by the students.”
Police arrested two people in a case filed for attacking students on the campus by goons on Friday which left 12 injured.
On November 2, the government shut down the college for violating the Private Medical College Installation and Operating Rules and Regulations.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abul Kalam Siddique said police are trying to arrest the remaining accused in the case.
