A Dhaka Court on Sunday cleared actress Shomi Kaiser from the charges in a defamation case filed against her for an ‘insulting’ exchange with journalists at Jatiya Press Club.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Sikder passed the order after accepting the final report pressed by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

Earlier on February 3, the PBI submitted the probe report as they found no witnesses in the case.

According to the case statement, on April 24, Shomi, also the president of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), lost her two cell phones at an event at the Press Club.

Her security guards locked the gate and searched all the journalists and guests. Around 50 journalists and over a hundred guests were locked inside for more than half-an-hour.

When the journalists became impatient and protested, Shomi reportedly called reporters ‘thieves’.
