Sohan’s final over carnage helps Rangpur stay perfect

Rangpur Riders skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan smashed Kyle Mayers three fours and as many sixes in the final over to snatch a thrilling three-wicket victory for his side against Fortune Barishal in Sylhet today, keeping their unbeaten run going in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League.

Chasing a target of 198 runs, Rangpur were reduced to 172-7 after the end of the penultimate over in which they lost three wickets, including set batter Khushdil Shah, who made 24-ball 48.

The onus was on Sohan as Rangpur required 26 runs in the last over and he started by hitting a six over deep mid-wicket. Sohan then hit two fours in the following two deliveries.

Another six in the fourth delivery of the over meant the equation came down to six needed off the final two deliveries. Sohan’s carnage did not stop as he went on to finish the game in style, with a four and another six in the last two deliveries.

It was Rangpur’s sixth successive win in as many matches in the tournament while Barishal now have lost two matches — both against Rangpur — out of five games.

Earlier, despite losing three early wickets, Rangpur’s ship was steadied by Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil, who both scored 48 runs and shared a 91-run stand for the fourth wicket.

Mayers earlier made an unbeaten 61 off 29 balls that featured seven sixes while Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tamim Iqbal also made 41 and 40 runs respectively to help Barishal post 197-5 in their 20 over after being asked to bat first.
