Actor Sonu Sood has been charged by the Moga police for breaking the model code of conduct by campaigning for his sister on election day.
Malvika Sood Sachar, Sood’s sister, ran for Congress as a Moga candidate. The SAD had filed a complaint with the Election Commission on Sunday, the day Punjab voted, alleging that Sood was travelling around booths using his “stardom” to “influence voters,” prompting police to seize his vehicle and order him to remain at home.
Sood has been charged with disobedience to a lawfully promulgated public servant order under Section 188 of the IPC at the Moga City police station, according to the FIR. Furthermore, he was allegedly campaigning for Malvika on election day in Landeke village.
According to Moga SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal, the FIR was filed in response to a complaint received by the Election Commission, and it is currently being probed.
“We had instructed Sonu Sood to stay inside his home after receiving a complaint from SAD. A flying squad team was also deputed outside his house for videography,” Satwant Singh, returning officer, told Indian Express.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, Sood resorted to Twitter to accuse other parties of ‘buying votes’ in Moga. He tweeted, “Other candidates in #Moga constituency are buying votes. @EVISWEEP should take immediate action.”
