Suspected drug peddler killed in Bhairab ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Gachtolaghat area of the upazila early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Md Helin, 45, son of late Sayeed Mia of Ponchobti Pukurpar area of the upazila.
Confirming the information, Bhairab Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mukhlechur Rahman said: “Tipped-off, a team of police conducted a drive in the area to capture drug smugglers. Sensing the presence of police members, the drug peddlers opened fire on them, prompting retaliation that triggered a gunfight.”
“Police rescued the bulled-hit body of Helin after the gunfight. Doctors declared him dead when he was sent to the hospital,” he added.
Helin was accused in several cases filed over the drug-related allegations, according to the claim of police.
