Suspected drug trader killed in Sirajganj ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Raypur area of Sirajganj municipality early Monday.

The deceased is Shahin Sheikh, 40, son of Anowar Hossain alias Danej Sheikh of Sirajganj municipality.

Confirming the information, Sirajganj Additional Police Superintendent Abu Yusuf said: “Tipped-off, a team of detectives conducted a drive in Rail Station area of the municipality when drug peddlers were smuggling Yaba. Sensing law enforcers’ presence, drug peddlers opened fire on them, prompting retaliation that triggered a gunfight.”

“Police recovered bullet-hit Shahin after the gunfight and he was declared dead at Sirajganj General Hospital. Shahin was accused in several cases filed over the allegation of drug dealing,” he added.

Police claimed to recover a pistol, two rounds bullet and 300 pieces of Yaba tablets from the spot.
