A Sylhet court today awarded death penalty to four persons for killing and disappearing a girl after raping under Kanaighat upazil in Sylhet district in 2016.

AM Zulfikar Hayat, Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict today.

The death penalty awardees are Abul Uddin, Babul Uddin, Rasel Ahmed and Sadik Ahmed, hailing from Eraligul village of the upazila.

According to the prosecution, Sultana Begum, 12, fell victim to the incident when she went to the hill to give water to the convicts. Finding her alone, the convicts violated and killed her on March 13, 2016. Later, they dumped her body.

After the disappearance of Sultana, her family members filed a general diary with the local police station.

The next day, family members along with local UP chairman recovered the body of the girl dumped at a nearby field.

Later, Sultana’s brother Eklim Uddin filed a case with the police station accusing the four persons.

The investigation officer of the case filed the charge sheet on court against the convicts.

After the formation of the charges against the four persons, the court pronounced the verdict on the basis of evidence.
