BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman today expressed his gratitude to the emir of Qatar for providing the air ambulance that ferried Chairperson Khaleda Zia from Dhaka to London on January 7.

“I am deeply grateful to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, for graciously providing transportation and logistics for my mother, former prime minister of Bangladesh, Begum Khaleda Zia,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

“On behalf of my family and the people of Bangladesh, I extend our heartfelt thanks for this support.”

He said he was looking forward to fostering lasting, multifaceted ties between Bangladesh and Qatar.

Khaleda, 79, is visiting London for advanced medical treatment.

After initial treatment, she may travel to the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Maryland, USA, for further medical care, according to party insiders.
