Three arrested in Sabujbagh housewife murder

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a housewife at Begunbari in Sabujbagh of the capital.

Addressing a press conference at Paltan Model Police Station in the capital on Tuesday, Md Abdul Ahad, deputy commissioner of the Motijheel Division of the DMP, said Md Mainul Islam used to live with his wife Tania Afroze and two children at Begunbari area.

“Mainul was transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital from Mughda Medical College Hospital some days ago. Mechanic Rifat Alam Bappi who installed an air-conditioner at his residence knew about the transfer of Mainul. Taking advantage of the absence of Mainul, Bappi planned to commit robbery at his residence with two others. Housewife Tania was brutally killed on Saturday (March 26) by the robbers,” said Md Abdul Ahad.

Ahad continued: “Bappi went to Mainul’s house at about 3:40pm on Saturday for servicing of AC. Bappi himself installed the AC at his house a year ago. When the killers went to the house and knocked the door, Tania came down. At that time, she also talked to husband Mainul over phone. At first, Mainul asked Tania not to allow them to enter, but later asked his wife to allow them to enter the house.”

“First Bappi and Ridoy worked for half an hour. After some time, Rubel went to the house. When Tania asked Bappi who Rubel was, he said he (Rubel) is their colleague. Then Tania went to the kitchen with her 10-month-old son Tanvirul.”

“After some time, Tania entered the room and suddenly saw that the almirah was open and things were lying scattered on the floor. Tania started shouting and just at that time, Rubel and Ridoy suffocated her with a pillow on her face, while Bappi started hitting on Tania’s head with a chapati kept in his bag. Attaching scotchtape to Tania’s two children’s mouths, the culprits started looting Tania’s mobile phone and ornaments.”

The police official said Bappi was arrested from his village home at Nalchity in Jhalakathi. According to his information, Ridoy and Rubel were arrested from Rampura early Tuesday afternoon.
