Transport workers to enforce 48-hr strike from today

Transport workers have announced the enforcement of a 48-hour general strike from Sunday to press home their eight-point demand.
The transport strike across the country starts at 6 am on Sunday and will continue till 6 am on Tuesday.
Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation General Secretary Osman Ali on Saturday said: “We have called the general strike to press home our eight-point demands. We will withdraw our programme if the government holds a talk over the matter.”
On October 12, they declared to go on a two-day work abstention from October 28 to press home their eight-point demand including amendments to the Road Transport Act.
The eight-point demands include– stopping police harassment while plying vehicles on roads, reducing the minimum education level required for driving licence to class five from eight, making all offences under the Road Transport Act bailable, cancellation of the provision under which a worker can be fined Tk 5 lakh for involvement in a road accident.
