Two arrested sisters asked to deposit Tk 10cr to People’s Leasing

High Court has granted bail to People’s Leasing and Finance Company Limited’s director Khabir Uddin Ahmed’s two arrested daughters–Sharmin Ahmed and Tania Ahmed– on condition of depositing 5 per cent or about Tk 10 crore of loans taken by 11 members of the family.

Eleven members including two sisters of the family took loans of Tk 197 crore from the People’s Leasing.

At the same time, the High Court directed police to keep the sisters under their custody. Besides, police asked to keep the passports of 11 loan defaulting members of the family.

A High Court bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarker passed the order on Wednesday afternoon, said Advocate Mesbah ur Rahman of the People’s Leasing.

The High Court asked both Sharmin Ahmed, 47, and Tania Ahmed, 37, to deposit 5 per cent (some Tk 10 crore) of the total loan amount of Tk 197 crore to the People’s Leasing’s board of directors within the next 30 days.

Earlier, Sharmin Ahmed and Tania Ahmed were produced before the High Court bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam by RAB.
