Udit Narayan survives building fire, mentally shaken
A fire broke out late Monday (January 6) night on the 11th floor of the 13-story Sky Pan building in Andheri’s Oberoi Complex, a residential tower known to house singer Udit Narayan. The fire broke out around 10pm in the B wing of the high-rise, while Narayan’s residence is located in the adjacent A wing.
Firefighters successfully brought the fire under control after nearly four hours, with officials confirming it was fully extinguished by 1:49am on Tuesday (January 7). Udit Narayan commended the fire department for their prompt efforts in tackling the emergency.
“The fire erupted at around 9pm. I reside on the 11th floor of the A wing, while the incident took place in the B wing. We were all evacuated and remained in the building premises for nearly three to four hours. It was a terrifying situation—anything could have gone wrong. I am immensely thankful to the almighty and our well-wishers for our safety,” the singer stated.
Recalling the harrowing experience, Narayan admitted it had taken a psychological toll on him. “This incident has left a deep impact on me, and it will take some time to overcome. Hearing about such tragedies is one thing, but living through them makes you truly understand the fear and distress they bring,” he shared.
During the fire incident, a senior citizen lost his life, and another individual was hospitalised due to severe smoke inhalation, officials confirmed.
Two residents suffered from suffocation caused by the thick smoke and were immediately rushed to Kokilaben Hospital for treatment. Among them, 75-year-old Rahul Mishra was pronounced dead upon arrival, while 38-year-old Raunak Mishra received initial medical care but opted for discharge against medical advice.
Officials stated that the fire was largely confined to the affected flat, damaging electrical wiring, household items, and other installations. Preliminary findings suggest an electrical short circuit might have been the cause, though a thorough investigation is still underway.
Sources revealed that five individuals were present in the duplex apartment where the fire erupted. While three people, including domestic staff, managed to escape unharmed, two others suffered from smoke inhalation.
Fire brigade officials noted that the building’s firefighting system was non-functional, which added to the challenges of containing the fire. They also stated that the design of the internal staircase within the duplex apartment made their operation “particularly difficult.”
On the professional front, Udit Narayan recently revisited some of his iconic songs. In 2023, he lent his voice to reimagined versions of “Main Nikla Gaddi Leke” and “Udd Ja Kaale Kaava” for “Gadar 2”. Last year, he recorded “Papa Kehte Hai” (Reprise) for the film “Srikanth”.
