“US, civil society members working for free, fair elections”

The US is working with Bangladeshi civil society actors for free and fair elections, said Afreen Akhter, US assistant deputy secretary for South and Central Asia.
She made the remark after meeting Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen and Maritime Unit Secretary Admiral (Retd) Khurshed Alam at the foreign ministry today.
Afreen Akhter arrived in Dhaka yesterday (November 5, 2022) afternoon on a two-day visit to Dhaka.
She told journalists that she discussed the possibilities of cooperation in maritime security including combating illegal fishing and other forms of crimes in the Bay of Bengal.
She also discussed the issue of free and fair national elections in Bangladesh.
