Vikrant Massey blames social media pressure for ‘retirement’

Bollywood actor Vikrant Massey recently surprised fans by announcing a break from acting. He revealed that his decision was fueled by social media pressure.

During an interview at Agenda AajTak, Vikrant explained that his demanding career had been limiting his time with his wife, Sheetal Thakur, and their son.

Vikrant shared, “I finally achieved the life I had always dreamed of, so I felt it was time to truly live it. Taking a break seemed necessary because, at the end of the day, everything in life is transient. That’s why I’ve decided to work on just one film next year.”

He admitted that social media pressure played a major role in his decision to announce the break. “I lead a public life and am somewhat introverted,” he said. “Social media is something one has to engage with, but if I had the option, I’d prefer to use it selectively—only when I genuinely want to share something.”

“When my son was born, I realised I wasn’t able to spend meaningful time with him or my wife. Everything was happening all at once, which is why I mentioned in my Instagram post that it was time to recalibrate my life—as an actor, a father, a husband, and a son,” he explained.

Reflecting on his career, he added, “After all that I have accomplished professionally, I wondered what more I could achieve as an actor in this country. Moving forward, my focus is on growing and improving as an artiste.”

Vikrant announced his break shortly after the release of his latest film, The Sabarmati Report. In an Instagram post, he reflected on his journey, writing, “The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I am deeply grateful to each one of you for your unwavering support.”

His post further read, “As I move forward, I feel it’s time to recalibrate and return home—as a Husband, Father, and Son, and also as an Actor. In 2025, we will meet one last time, until the time feels right again. Two final movies and countless memories. Thank you for everything and all the moments in between. Forever grateful.”
