Aninda Gopal Mitra, advisor of West Bengal BJP president, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her office here today.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, PM’s press secretary Ihsanul Karim said the prime minister and BJP leader discussed issues of mutual interest including the existing excellent relations between Bangladesh and India.
Mitra recalled his role as a young political activist during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.
The Prime Minister also recalled immense support of the Indian government and people during the liberation war.
Sheikh Hasina said the history of Bangladesh was distorted after the killing of Bangabandhu in 1975, keeping a generation in the dark about the real history of the country.
“However, new generation is aware of the history and they know the real history of the country,” she said.
The Prime Minister said the relations between Bangladesh and India have now reached a new height. Both the countries value relations with each other, she said.
Mitra paid tribute to Bangabandhu placing a bouquet of flowers on his portrait in the office room of the Prime Minister.
PM’s Principal Secretary Md. Nojibur Rahman and PMO secretary Sazzadul Hassan were present.
