A former official of Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute has been stabbed to death in the capital.

The incident happened at Holy Land Golli under Adabar Police Station after 7:30pm on Thursday. Critically injured Anwar Shahid was rushed to Suhrawardy Hospital where he succumbed at about 11:00pm, said sub-inspector Selim Hossain of Adabar Police Station.

The deceased Anwar Shahid was 72-year old. He went on retirement at Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Bangladesh Wheat and Maize Research Institute at Nashipur in Dinajpur district.

Family claimed that Anwar Shahid went out of his residence at Kalyanpur after receiving a phone call from an unknown person. He went to Hanif Paribahan counter at Shyamoli. Had the muggers stabbed him, they would have taken his mobile phone and moneybag, but nothing went missing.

Adabar Police Station’s sub-inspector Selim Hossain said, “We’re anticipating that it is a pre-planned murder. He was murdered after calling out from his residence by someone. However, the murderer couldn’t be identified or arrested so far.

Police have been working to identify the killer.
