  • Wonder Woman 1984 released in theatres worldwide during Christmas 2020
  • It also premiered online on HBO Max in the US
  • Despite coronavirus pandemic and online release, Wonder Woman 1984 has fared well at the box office in India as well as in the overseas

The second instalment in the much loved Wonder Woman franchise, Wonder Woman 1984 directed by Patty Jenkins has received mixed reviews from the film critics. The film currently stands at 63 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Moreover, it released in theatres worldwide in the middle of a pandemic when most of the big screens are either closed or following social distancing rule which results in theatre owners allowing only 50 per cent occupancy.

Not just that, to affect the theatrical business further, the highly awaited superhero film released online on HBO Max simultaneously. Even though, it only released online officially in the US, pirated prints are available online for the movie buffs worldwide.

Overcoming all odds, Wonder Woman 1984 has performed well over its first weekend. It has become the best performing film in India since the theatres reopened mid-October beating Christopher Nolan’s Tenet.

The movie had its paid previews in India on October 23 post 5 pm and had a full fledged release on October 24. According to a report in Box office India, Wonder Woman 1984 has collected Rs 8 crore on the first four days of its release including paid previews.

The movie earned Rs 75 lakh via previews, Rs 1.5 crore on day one, Rs 2.25 crore on day two, Rs 1.75 crore on day three and Rs 1.75 crore on day four.

When compared to Wonder Woman that released in 2017 under normal circumstances and earned Rs 23 crore, Wonder Woman 1984‘s box office is outstanding during the pandemic. If it follows similar patter at the ticket window, Wonder Woman 1984 is expected to breach Rs 20 crore mark at India box office in its lifetime run.
